Reimagining Dispute Resolution: Green Edge Attorneys’ Lead Counsel, Aisha Ado Abdullahi, Inspires at ABU Zaria ADR Week.

On 9th August 2025, the Alternative Dispute Resolution Society of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria hosted its ADR Week flagship event, the Journal Launch Event & Fireside Chat under the theme: “Reimagining Dispute Resolution: ADR Solutions, Opportunities, and Future Directions.”

Among the distinguished speakers was Aisha Ado Abdullahi, Lead Counsel at Green Edge Attorneys and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (FICMC), delivered an insightful address that showcased her thought leadership and left a lasting impression on the students and all ADR and legal professionals in attendance.

Her presence at this prestigious institution marked a significant step forward for the advancement of dispute resolution in Nigeria. She commended the ADR Society for creating a dynamic platform to shape the future of conflict resolution, while also celebrating the launch of their maiden student journal, an invaluable contribution to the next generation of peacemakers.

During the Fireside Chat, Aisha highlighted the urgency of the theme, noting that the complexities of modern politics, business, and interpersonal relations demand a shift away from over-reliance on traditional litigation. She urged future lawyers to reimagine, rethink, and act differently, positioning ADR as a tool not only for resolving disputes but also for fostering unity and justice in diverse communities.

She challenged students to:

  • Learn the rules of arbitration, then reshape the system to serve more people.
  • Master mediation and apply it beyond corporate boardrooms, to markets, homes, places of worship, and communities.
  • Build not only successful careers, but also credibility, compassion, and courage.
  • Let the law serve justice and let ADR serve humanity.

She addressed mind-opening questions on the defining moments of her ADR career and how she has navigated unique challenges as a woman in the field. She spoke candidly about the current state of ADR in Nigeria, identifying growth areas while aligning them with global trends shaping the profession’s future.

She also offered practical guidance for students eager to engage with ADR before being called to the Bar, highlighting key skills and certifications for a strong foundation.

In Conclusion, she encouraged young female professionals to combine competence with courage, reminding them that confidence and credibility are equally essential in the dispute resolution space.

This event not only celebrated an important academic milestone but also inspired a generation of emerging dispute resolution professionals. Aisha’s session left participants with a renewed vision of ADR, not just as a career path, but as a transformative instrument for peace, justice, and societal progress.
